Readers Page 1 :: "Alan Hayton, New Zealand" - 1

Here is a great photo sent by Alan Hayton from New Zealand.
He also gave me the following details.

Photograph was taken at the Hawera Racecourse, near New Plymouth.
(I would guess at a date of 1925/26 by the saddle tank Norton).

The rider is Henrik.H.Moller, and the chap on the left is his brother Jack,
who was a veteran of Gallipoli.

The Mollers are of Danish origin, and became very successful in the motor trade in New Zealand with garages in both New Plymouth and Hawera.
Henrik had three sons, Norton, Russell and Peter.

The remarkable thing to me about Henrik H. Moller is that in 1926 he came from New Zealand all the way to the Isle of Man to compete in the Senior T.T. Race of that year. I have a book called '50 Years of T.T.History' which covers the years 1907 to 1956. It shows everything covering these years, and it lists H.H.Moller. from New Zealand as a competitor in the Senior race (500cc.) in 1926. I wonder if this was the bike he competed on ?.
This photograph came from Norton, who as you will have guessed, got his name from his fathers favourite motorcycle. Henrik was very enthusiastic about racing,(and Norton's !)and I'm told that he won the World 10 mile grass championship at Opotiki, but I do not know the year. More images from Alan Hayton

As a tribute to Henrik H.Moller, the background image on this page is of Bob McIntyre on his
Works 7R A.J.S. 350 cc in the 1952 Junior TT.
He won the race at a record speed of 85.73 m.p.h. AND came 2nd. in the Senior (500 c.c.) race on the SAME bike !!
I met Bob McIntyre when he was sponsored by Joe Potts of Bellshill near where we stayed. Joe ran a very successful Motor business, and having been keen on Racing when he was younger, ran his own Road Racing team . He had a VERY good workshop (complete with his own wind tunnel), very professional, and got good results, specialising in tuning NORTON engines.
Bob McIntyre raced for Joe for several years before he joined the A.J.S. Works team

As a matter of interest Joe also made the J.P. Special for use in 500cc CAR racing, fitted with the Norton racing engine which he had great experience with, and could tune very highly. It was competitive with the more popular COOPER 500 c.c. Racing cars available then

Here is a puzzle for you to help with.
This photo is about 1934/5, the rider is Dad with Tommy Hughson on the right, but who is the man in the cap?
He was doing a Round the World trip on the outfit, and I think he was from Prague or that area. This was a stop off in Edinburgh. He got a service done by Rossleigh, but I cannot tell you what make the bike is, can you?
If you recognise him, or the outfit, I will send you a larger image by e-mail.
He was collecting Motorcycle Club badges
as he went...as you can see!! .....
Thank's (again !) to Howard Burrows who tells me that this is a Harley Davidson

Ref. points are :: sidecar chassis, front forks and guard. But, who is he ??? and did he do it !!!
