I feel that the 'SCOTT' is a much maligned and ignored motorcycle, and this is only because the best ones were made such a long time ago, between 1920 to 1935
Let me tell you a little about the company.

This is the original logo of the Scott Motor Cycle co. You can see that it is an image of an engineering limit gauge. Any Scott was a well designed machine, and well engineered. The Company was formed by Alfred Angas Scott (1875 - 1923) who was born at Kirkcaldy in Scotland. He moved to Yorkshire and founded the Scott Company in 1908. You will note that he died at the very young age of 48, and this had I feel a great effect on the development of the Scott.
The Water cooled twin cylinder Scott was very popular as a sports bike in the 1920 / 30's. This was due to the low centre of gravity it had and the high revving twin cylinder two stroke, water cooled engine design. There were not many bikes that could keep up with a good Scott, ridden well.
They also began that great institution 'The Scott Trial' (More Later)

The photo taken in 1930 shows Dad on his Scott, with it's distinctive petrol tank and water cooled engine, note the low weight distribution.

Dad liked Scott's as a road bike because of their handling and speed, particularly the accelleration available. He visited the Scott Factory on a regular basis and used the run to try out the bikes. What he did was to get someone in Rossleigh to note the time he left at, and then send a Telegram as soon as he arrived at the Post Office in Shipley. The time difference was the figure to beat on the next trip.

This the 1930 Yorkshire registered ( WX 4053 ) Sprint Special Scott we had around 1960. It was painted bright red with black frame and forks, and with the alloy castings polished , it was quite a looker. Made a wonderful noise............
YYYYeeeeeoooooowwwwwwwllllllll ..which was,of course, the name of the Scott Club Magazine
