Rossleigh of Edinburgh
.Here
is a photo of the showroom at night in 1935,
looks like mainly Excelsior bikes, note particularly the 2 Excelsior 'Manxmen'
with their O.H.C. engines, a good quality bike but quite expensive in their
day.
Very
popular with the road racing boys, they even looked the part.
I bought the remains of a Manxman in around 1965, it had the wrong engine
fitted (250cc A.J.S.) as spares would be very hard to find for the correct
engine.
Kept it for a time, but gave up on getting the correct engine, and sold it.
As you might guess, I then found a complete Manxman engine for sale at a Jumble
sale.
This is 'MY' Manxman, as it was bought. It was
sold in exactly the same condition. Hindsight is a great thing, but it fairly
depresses you at times !
Somebody had gone to a lot of trouble to put the AJS engine in, and it fitted
fairly well, but I did not have the heart to build a Bitza from it.
.
.
Rossleigh again with an OK Supreme window.
Sorry about the quality, but they are very old now. I feel that they are worth showing as there are not many Photo's like them around. As a matter of interest the Price of the New bikes is between £34 to £56 on the display cards.
