Some more Photographs from the Album.

The Scott dates from 1929 by the registration number. Howard Burrows has told me that the bike on the right is an early 1920's Rover unit construction 250cc, quite a rare machine.

This must be around 1935 because of the WS 2825 reg. no. of the Levis Dad is on. The other two are Nortons.

Taken at the start of a Trial, bikes are too clean, note the 'Knobbly' tyres on the first two. I do not fancy the chances of the other Norton with full set of lights and road tyres.

The Levis was quite a popular bike to use for this type of competition work.

If you would like to see a better shot of this picture, just click on it. Quite a large file to get the quality. (63KB progressive JPG) Give it time !!

The Boy Racers, around 1918 / 20, click for larger image.

This next one I really like, it has such a period feel to it. The bike with the rider is a Norton reg no. SD 5424.Note the Beaded edge tyres and carbide gas lights. Also the front brake (?) is a push cycle type. The throttle is a lever on the sports type handlebars. The plunger on the saddle tank is the oil pump, which you have to push every few miles. I have ridden several bikes like this and can tell you that they can GO....just forget about trying to stop them !!

The other bike I am not sure of, reg no is SD 3234
It has NO front brake, and has a straight through exhaust with what looks like a tuned carburettor. Drive to the back wheel is by belt. This shot lets you see the full Carbide headlamp kit.The flask behind the lamp is for the carbide. This system worked remarkably well, giving a reasonable light. I have tried it, and still have a Carbide lamp and tank.

You had to be very brave to go at speed on beaded edge tyres, I did not fancy it at all !! My thanks to Leon Mitchell from Australia who tells me that the 'Other Bike' is a' Rover TT' model. Link to his web site from my front page.
