The Transverse Twin.

At Olympia in 1937,one of the many attractions on the Brough stand was a new Machine,
Engine No 4000BS/X.It did not have a frame No.This was the only Transverse Twin ever made, as far as I know. It left the works in August 1938, having been sold to a Mr W. Douglas of Edinburgh, and was Registered FAU 85.

In the early 1960's Albert Wallis ,the Brough Superior Club Librarian, contacted my father as he had
heard that the Transverse Twin was still in Edinburgh, now owned by Dan Forbes, who hoped to restore it.

When you look at the photo of it you will see just what a daunting job that was going to be!! The frame
at the Back had been removed , and swinging arm suspension "put" on ! And that was just for a start!!

{T/Twin before}
After many visits to Edinburgh, a deal was agreed,and my father and I went through with the van to collect the Bike, which was then passed to Albert Wallis for restoration.This was it "as found"
{After restoration}
And Restored

It is very obvious that the bike went to the right home as thejob of restoration was so good, a real craftsman.
