Ardie Motorcycles

Taken in 1932, this is the image that started all this off !!
I wrongly identified the 3 outfits above, (previous page), BUT..... thanks to Leon Mitchell from Australia
and Wilfried Knapp from Germany, the mysterious bike in the middle can now be revealed !!

This image from Leon Mitchell
Advert from November 13, 1930 edition of the
Motor Cycle Magazine.

Duralumin Cradle Frame, no less !
In case you cannot make out the name, it is a
'Silver Eagle' Model, 500 cc J.A.P. Engine.

Rossleigh must have got it from the address
shown in London, and Registered it in Edinburgh.

see Links page for Leon's Home Page
and also for Wilfried's Home Page.
Two very good sites

This image & Details from Wilfried Knapp
Arno Dietrich started motorcycle production under the ARDIE trade name in Nürnberg in 1919 making a small
two-stroke model of 288cc and later 304 cc capacity.
Arno Dietrich lost his life on a test ride in 1922, and the
works were taken over by the Bendit brothers of Fürth.

In 1925 ARDIE started to use JAP engines and these
bikes were built on quite English styling lines, see attached picture of a 1927 350cc racer. In 1930 or 31 they started building pressed duraluminium frames, and the bike on your photograph is most probably a 1931 500 cc JAP 'Silberadler' (silver eagle),
The ARDIE was produced until 1959
